SLMC General Secretary congratulates new President

Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) General Secretary congratulated President Anura Kumara Dissanayake on his election to office.   

He said the just-concluded Presidential Election was the  culmination of a democratic process of historical significance for Sri  Lanka.   

“We at the outset wish to express our deepest gratitude to  all the voters who voted for Sajith Premadasa, supporting the position  taken by the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress during this election. We also  take this opportunity to thank the Election Commission, the Police and  other offices who have worked impartially to hold a free and fair  election. This election has strengthened the hope for a new political  culture and attitude, as reflected in the reawakening of its citizens.  That remains the unanimous message for all of us, Sri Lankans. This is a  victory achieved without any extremist national sentiments or any other  supremacist ideology being put forward. Anura Kumara Dissanayake  secured the support of the majority community of Sri Lanka on such an  inclusive policy platform, which we believe is a cornerstone of a new  political culture. This is a result of the long-enduring yearning of the  people of Sri Lanka to make governance corruption-free and to progress  as a unified nation beyond ethnic, religious and linguistic differences.  While this election has undoubtedly been a testament to the democratic  voice of the people we wish the new President a successful journey  ahead,” he said.
