STF, Mahaweli Officials seize 1,000 kg of Glyphosate

A stock of 1,000 kilos of Glyphosate was seized and two suspects arrested by the STF and the Mahaweli Authority officials during a raid carried out on the stores of a dealer in agro-chemicals in the Suriyawewa Town. 


 The suspects were the trader and his helper in the stores.  


The STF carried out the raid with the help of the Agro-Chemical Unit of the Mahaweli Authority. The trader and the helper were in the process of packaging the  Glyphosate when the STF carried out the raid on information from the public.  


The suspects and the case productions were handed over to  the Suriyawewa Police for further action. They were to be produced before the Hambantota Magistrate.   Commanding Officer of the Suriyawewa STF camp CI Sanjeewa Fernando, IP Anura Ranasinghe, SI Jayawardene carried out the raid on the instructions of Regional Commander ASP Ananda Premasiri, Zonal Commander SSP Viduranatha Disananayake, and Commander of the STF DIG Waruna Jayasundara.
