STF seizes Rs.5.6Mn worth illicit fags in Kandana

A large stock of illegal cigarettes worth over Rs.5.6 million smuggled into the country through unlawful channel was seized by the Police Special Task Force (STF) in Kandana last week.   

STF Organised Crime Detection Unit II personnel on information raided a spot in Kandana and nabbed a male along with the foreign cigarettes.   The seized fags were of the brands of Manchester Lights, Benson and Hedges and Manchester Strawberry and contained about 80,000 sticks.   

The suspect had been identified to be a 36-year-old resident of Hettimulla.   OIC STF special unit Inspector S. Paramullage is conducting inquiries on the instructions of STF Commandant DIG Waruna Jayasundara. The contraband along with the suspect had been handed over to the Kandana Police for further inquiries.
