Schoolboy arrested for rape

A 19 year old schoolboy was arrested in connection with the alleged rape of a 15 year old schoolgirl. They were students of a school in Dombagahawela.   
Investigations revealed that the suspect schoolboy from Hulannuge and the girl had been in love.   
The girl’s father had deserted the family about 15 years ago and her mother who cared for her was a manual worker in the area.   
On the day of the incident the girl had gone missing from home and the following day the mother had received a call from the suspect schoolboy to meet them near a school in Monaragala town and take home the girl.   
Police had arrested the suspect and admitted the girl to hospital for medical examination.   
Investigations revealed that the suspect had raped the girl at a community centre in the area and in the Monaragala public playground.   
The suspect was to be produced before the Siyambalanduwa magistrate yesterday.   
Dombagahawela police are conducting further investigations.
