Senior journalist Zacki Jabbar found dead

Senior journalist Zacki Jabbar of The Island newspaper was found dead at his residence in Pelawatta, Battaramulla on Wednesday night, police said.

It was reported that he had been dead for about two weeks before he was found by his brother.   The Island staff alerted the deceased’s brother after Mr. Jabbar didn’t report to work over that period. They have earlier sent a policeman to his house twice.   

The journalist who lived alone is suspected to have suffered a heart attack although the post mortem examination is yet to be conducted.   
Jabbar who was in his early sixties had served as a news editor of the paper and had covered a wide range of beats including politics.   

Thalangama Police are conducting inquiries. His last rites would be notified shortly.
