11,293 individuals in self-quarantine

Seven villages in Beruwala high-risk zone have been locked down and 11,293 individuals in them confined to self-quarantine. Divisional Secretary Chatura Malraj said China Fort, Pannila, Karandagoda, Kankanamgoda, Walathara, Ambepitiya, Akkaragoda, Grama Niladhari areas where Corona infected had been identified were locked down.
The Divisional Secretary said essential consumer goods would be provided to the locked-down areas and distributed through China Fort security checkpoint under strict health precautions by the police and the security forces. He said only the police and the security forces and the health authorities would be permitted entry into these villages.
Beruwala MOH Dr. Waruna Seneviratne said an ambulance was on standby duty to transport any villager, if taken ill, to hospital. He said 35 Corona infected individuals had been identified from Beruwala division. Police said a continual curfew was in force in the area.
