Shooting at Uddika’s vehicle, former ASP arrested

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested the former Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) of Anuradhapura Sanjeewa Mahanama for allegedly assisting in the incident involving the shooting of actor-turned-politician Uddika Premaratne’s vehicle near his residence in Anuradhapura.  

Earlier it was revealed that the shooting was allegedly orchestrated by the actor himself along with an Assistant Superintendent of Police.  

According to the initial investigations, the said MP had planned this incident together with the ASP.  

The shooting attack on MP Uddika Premaratne’s vehicle took place on September 17, 2023. The side window of the car was damaged by the gunfire, but the MP was not injured.  

Following the incident ASP Mahanama left the country without proper authorization from the Police Department and a separate inquiry was launched into this matter.  

Police said the former ASP was arrested by the CID in the Malabe area and will be produced before court.
