Spill gates of Upper Kotmale reservoir open

One of the auto functioning spill gates in the Upper Kotmale hydropower reservoir opened in the early hours of last morning when the reservoir reached spill level due to the heavy rainfall experienced in the catchments.   
Asst. Director Nuwara Eliya District Disaster Management Centre said other spill gates would open in case of continued rainfall in the catchment areas, and warned the people living in the low lying areas of Kotmalaoya river to be cautious of any possible danger of floods.
