Sri Lanka and Aussie sign MoU on Human Trafficking, migrant smuggling

The Sri Lanka and Australia Governments yesterday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) as a transitory solution to the prolonged issue of Human Trafficking and migrant smuggling between the two countries.   


A discussion on this issue was held yesterday between Defence State Minister Chamal Rajapaksa and the Australian representatives.   


Representing Australia were, Major General Craig Furini (Commander Joint Task Force, Operation Sovereign Borders), Ms. Jenny Grant (Curnow –Acting Assistant Secretary, People Smuggling and Human Trafficking Task, Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade), David Holly (Australian High Commissioner To Sri Lanka), Ms. Tara Cavanagh (Minister Counsellor Home Affairs), Group Captain Sean Unwin (Defence Adviser), Ms. Susan Jones (Second Secretary) while Admiral Nishantha Ulugattene, Air Vice Marshal S K Pathirana and several other officers participated in the discussion representing Sri Lanka.
