A state minister stressed on the need to introduce a national economic development policy to be implemented devoid of any political approach. State Minister Nimal Lanza said this at a meeting in Negombo recently.  He said Sri Lankan leaders who tried to implement various projects in the post-independence era met with resistance by some elements.

He said the same trend continues even today.  He said the entire world is moving for renewable energy sources, and therefore Sri Lanka should use its petroleum and gas deposits immediately.

“Otherwise, in another 20 years’ time, these resources will be of no use,” he said.

He said Sri Lankan investors were making investments overseas.
