Srilankan owes Rs.35 bn to CPC; faces danger of fuel supply halt

Under the arrangement of obtaining fuel on credit, Sri Lankan Airlines owes the Petroleum Corporation a sum amounting to Rs.35 billion, which, if not settled before September, would compel the corporation to stop supplying fuel. This scenario was intimated to the National Carrier by the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC).   

As reported, the credit limit for the fuel by the CPC to the Sri Lankan Airlines is Rs.37 billion and with the non-payment of arrears, it is on the verge of exceeding this limit.   Accordingly, if the outstanding amount is not settled before September 6, the Board of Directors of the Petroleum Corporation, which met recently, has decided to stop supplying fuel to the Sri Lankan Airlines.
