A large consignment of poisonous chemicals seized by the Consumer Affairs Authority was handed over to Katunayake Incy Ecco Cycle Institute on the recommendation of the Central Environmental Authority after submitting a report to Kaduwela magistrate and obtaining a court order

The stock of 500 kilos of the chemical purchased from the market had been adulterated with other chemical products manufactured locally or imported by a businessman in Kaduwela area and supplied to schools, universities, government institutions and laboratories in packets bearing forged labels.

A senior official of Colombo CAA said they carried out the raid during investigations of public complaints and seized the stock of chemicals valued about Rs. 5 million. He said they refrained from disposing of the stock to the earth in view of any possible danger to the environment and that it was handed over to the Eco Cycle Institue to be destroyed in keeping with the International standards.
