Stop inviting politicians for school events: PM

Education Minister and Prime Minister Dr.Harini Amarasuriya today urged all schools to immediately stop inviting politicians for their school events.  

Speaking at an event organized by the Education Ministry, the minister said that inviting politicians to schools distracts from the educational focus and risks politicizing the school environment.  

She also said the need for transparency in filling teacher vacancies and urged that the process be conducted properly to build public trust.  

“Addressing student mental health, she noted that the current generation faces significant challenges, including the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic and the economic crisis, which have increased stress levels among students,” she said.  

The minister also called for a swift and fair resolution to the recent Grade 5 scholarship exam paper leak, assuring that no harm would come to the affected students. She stressed the need for an independent report on the matter and instructed the Examinations Department to release all delayed exam results promptly.
