“ Surakimu Ganga “ Programme initiated in Ampara

The main ceremony of the “Surakimu Ganga” river protection programme for the Ampara district was held on the banks of the Gal Oya river with State Minister of Wildlife and Forest Conservation Wimalaweera Dissanayake. It was organised by the Central Environmental authority with the participation of several government institutions in the district   


The minister initiated the tree planting campaign on the banks of the Gal Oya. The CEA presented the state minister a report on the quality of the water in the Gal Oya which was identified to be fit for human consumption.
Addressing the ceremony the State Minister Dissanayake stressed the responsibility of the media in environmental protection. He said media personnel were interested in environmental protection but at times they unintentionally became part and parcel of environmental damage.   


Parliamentarian Dr. Tilak Rajapakse, Ampara Govt.Agent D.M.L. Bandaranayake and several senior officials were present on the occasion.
