Many teachers are facing difficulties due to amendments being made by the Ministry of Education to the recommendations of the Teacher Transfer Unit instead of implementing them.
The Chairman of the All Island United Teacher’s Union The Ven. Yalwela Pannasekara Thera said that according to the Teachers Service Minutes, recommendations forwarded by the Teacher Transfer Unit require to be approved and implemented by the Ministry of Education.

Previous Ministers implemented only the recommendations put forward by the Teacher Transfer Unit and did not implement any transfer based on personal interests of officials, he added.   He also said that after the new government came into power, recommendations made by the Teacher Transfer Board are being amended based on the whims and fancies of several officials in the Ministry and it is being done against the law.

This unit consists of epresentatives from Unions and transfers are recommended according to a standard methodology.
