Thalawa OIC assaulted

• The OIC was assaulted with a sharp weapon causing injuries in his left upper limb and his head

 A police team under OIC Thalawa Police CI L.M.M.K Lansakara had come under assault during a raid on an illicit brewery at Sumudugama in Thalawa. The OIC and four officers including an IP, who received injuries were admitted to Thalawa hospital and the OIC was thereafter transferred to Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital for further treatment.   

 The owner of the brewery and several of his relatives and friends had behaved in an unruly manner, obstructing the duty of the police during the raid and on information from the police team, the OIC had rushed to the scene with several other police officers.   

 The unruly crowd had assaulted the OIC with a sharp weapon causing injuries in his left upper limb and his head.   

 A group of five suspects including two woman were taken into custody and four of them were admitted to Thalawa Divisional Hospital under arrest.   

 The suspects were to be produced before the Thambuttegama Magistrate.   

 Thambuttegama and Rajangana police are conducting further investigations.
