Even though the number of COVID-19 cases reported within the Navy are relatively high, all such cases are being reported from quarantine centres, the Navy said yesterday.

Navy Spokesperson Isuru Sooriyabandara told the Daily Mirror that the number of cases may seem high since all suspected Navy personnel are being tested for the virus.

“Had we limited ourselves to the random sampling test, the positive cases would have been fewer. That’s why, we test all suspected cases,” he said and expressed optimism that the spread of the virus in the Navy would come to an end in the near future.  The total number of COVID-19 cases reported from the Navy personnel stand at 802 while 426 of them have been discharged after recovering.

31 Covid-19 cases were reported in the Navy on Wednesday.
