The Joint Opposition yesterday made a fresh call for the arrest of Former Western Province Governor Azath Salley whom they alleged of threatening the Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mawanella, Gamini Tennekoon.

Joint Opposition MP Jayantha Samaraweera who called for the arrest of Mr. Salley said the latter had threatened ASP Tennekoon after he revealed certain information on the Easter Sunday attacks to the media.

“ All information pertaining to the April 21attacks could be uncovered if Mr. Salley is arrested,” MP Samaraweera said

“ IGP Pujith Jayasundara had called and requested the ASP to contact Mr. Salley saying he is willing to handover the two suspects connected to the attack on the Mawanella Buddha statues. The ASP had acted upon the order and had contacted former the Western Province Governor. However Mr. Salley had failed to hand over the suspects. The two suspects later went missing. The police had said the Easter Sunday attacks could have been prevented if these two persons were arrested in December 2018,” he added.

He then requested that ASP Tennekoon and the DIG of the area be called before the select committee saying vital information on the Easter Sunday attack could be uncovered if that happen.
