Three accomplices of ‘Angoda Lokka’ arrested over double murder

Three accomplices of underworld figure ‘Angoda Lokka’ have been arrested yesterday in connection with a double murder, where a businessman and his driver were shot dead in Hanwella, Police Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekera said.   


A soil businessman, 43-year-old W. Vijith Premalal alias Sumedha and 32-year-old M.G. Ravindum were shot dead by two unidentified gunmen at Pahathgama in Hanwella on August 25.   
SP Gunasekera said the Hanwella Police and the Western Province (South) crimes officers had launched an investigation into the shooting. They had analyzed CCTV footage and telephone records to apprehend the suspects.   


The 32-year-old Shammi Waruna Kumara, Ajith Premalal (28) and Gayan Darshana (31) were arrested on charges of aiding and abetting to the shooting.   


SP Gunasekera said the businessman had received death threats before he was killed. The police recovered a mobile sim card and a mobile phone which allegedly used to threaten the businessman from the possession of Ajith Premalal. Police also recovered 210 grams of hasis.    


The suspects were identified as residents of Salamulla, Angoda and Mulleriyawa. The spokesman said that initial investigation revealed that all three suspects involved with soil supply contract.   


The suspects would be detained for further questioning after producing before the Avissawella Magistrate’s Court.
