Three school boys had drowned in the Katugaha Galge lake at Buttala and their bodies were recovered last morning by the police.
The victims R.M.Dhanajaya Deshan (18) of Batugammana, D.P.Randeep Tharaka (18) of Sirigala and Korala Gamage Imesh (18) of Rattanapitiya were students of Monaragala National School preparing for the up coming Advanced Leval examination.
Investigation revealed that they had left home on two motorcycles under the pretext of visiting a friend. However, when they did not returned their parents had informed the Monaragala police.
Police said during investigations they received information from fishermen that two motorcycles, three cellular phones and clothes were lying on the sluice gate of the lake. A senior police official said they searched for the disappeared with the help of the fishermen to find their bodies in the lake. The bodies were referred to the Monaragala general hospital for postmortem examination.
Residents of the area told police that they noticed the three young men bathing in the lake.
Buttala and Moneragala police are conducting further investigations on the instructions of ASPs Hemantha Oviama, S.P.K.Gallage and SSP Monaragala division Sisila Kumara.
