Thundershowers expected across multiple regions

The Department of Meteorology has forecast widespread showers and thundershowers across several regions of Sri Lanka over the next 36 hours.  

Northern, Eastern, and Uva provinces are expected to experience thundershowers primarily in the afternoon and night. In contrast, Southern and Western coastal areas may see light showers during the morning.   

Cities such as Anuradhapura, Batticaloa and Jaffna will likely have thundershowers after 2 p.m., while Colombo and Galle can expect intermittent light rain throughout the day. The public is advised to take precautions against localized strong winds and lightning during these storms.   

In Anuradhapura, the maximum temperature will be 35°C and the minimum 26°C, with similar conditions predicted in other regions. For instance, Batticaloa will experience temperatures ranging between 34°C and 25°C. Colombo is forecast to have a maximum temperature of 32°C and a minimum of 26°C, with several spells of light rain. Galle, with a maximum temperature of 31°C and a minimum of 27°C, will also have light showers throughout the day. Jaffna, which is expected to see thundershowers after 2 p.m., will have temperatures between 35°C and 24°C.   

In Kandy, the temperature will range between 32°C and 22°C, with thundershowers likely in the afternoon. Nuwara Eliya, cooler than other areas, will experience temperatures between 23°C and 13°C, with afternoon thundershowers. Meanwhile, Ratnapura, with temperatures ranging from 34°C to 23°C, will have light showers throughout the day. Trincomalee and Mannar will also see thundershowers after 2 p.m., with temperatures of 32°C to 24°C and 32°C to 27°C, respectively.
