Any alliance between President Ranil Wickremesinghe and SJB  presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa at this moment will have no  impact as people have already decided whom to vote, NPP politburo member  Sunil Handunnetti said yesterday.

Handunnetti told media outside CID headquarters that both  Ranil Wickremesinghe and Sajith Premadasa are contesting and it is  pointless joining now.

“It is too late now. Ranil and Sajith are contesting now  and there is no point in joining now. People have already decided whom  to vote,” he said responding to a question.   Handunnetti said the opposition camp was spreading false news  targeting National People’s Power, which insulted the NPP and misled the  people.   He said the opposition politicians who sensed their defeat  were engaged in this campaign to tarnish the popularity of the NPP in  social media and mainstream media.

Handunnetti said some people have started spreading false  news targeting government employees just before the postal voting. “They  are spreading false news that the NPP government will deprive government  employees of their vehicle permits. We cannot and we will not do so as  professionals are entitled to it. We will only remove vehicle permits for  politicians. However, we will provide them with one vehicle which they  need to return after their tenure,” he said.

Handunnetti arrived at the CID to record a statement  regarding a complaint made by him over a forged document prepared for  release to the media using the signature of NPP presidential candidate  Anura Dissanayake and a fake letterhead depicting National People’s  Power.
