Colombo High Court fixed the hearing of the case against Ex-Senior DIG Anura Senanayake for allegedly withholding evidence into the murder of Sri Lanka and Havelocks Sport Club ruggerite Wasim Thajudeen for October 22.

At the outset President Counsel Anil Silva informed High Court Judge Vikum Kaluarachchi that several vital documents pertaining to the case had not been made available to the defence.
Deputy Solicitor General Dilan Ratnayake, who prosecuted, undertook to issue those copies to the defence in due course.

Ex-SDIG Senanayake was accused of withholding evidence into the death of Wasim Thajudeen by knowing or having reason to believe that an offence punishable with death had been committed and provided false information by shielding the offender from legal punishment.

Thajudeen was alleged to have been killed in a road accident that occurred on May 12, 2012. It was later revealed that the death was a murder.

Accused Anura Senanayake was released on Rs. one million cash bail with two sureties for Rs two million on each surety by the High Court. He is also banned from foreign travel and his passport was impounded,

The court had earlier summoned six prosecution witnesses including former Narahenpita OIC Sumith Champika Perera to appear before court on October 23 to
give evidence.
