Two including State Minister’s private secretary arrested for Rs.1.5Mn bribe

A private secretary to State Minister S.Viyalendiran and a political activist have been arrested on allegations of soliciting a bribe of Rs.1.5 million.   

The Bribery or Corruption Allegations Investigation Commission said that the suspects were arrested following a complaint by a businessman from the Polonnaruwa area.   

The suspects had allegedly solicited the bribe to facilitate the issuance of a permit from the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau.  

The private secretary was arrested at the state minister’s office in Batticaloa, while the political activist was arrested near a state bank in the same city.  The suspects are scheduled to produce in court.
