UNP MPs who met President Gotabaya Rajapaksa on Wednesday had requested him to implement a model to avoid the breaking up of school education programmes.
The UNP in a statement said this was one of the several proposals which UNP delegation put forward during the meeting.
“Education activities should not come to a halt because of COVID-19 and therefore some programme should be implemented to teach children,” the UNP MPs have told the President.
They have also informed the President that the distribution of relief to the people have been politicized in a few areas and urged that such actions be stopped immediately.
They also told the President to ensure the safety of health sector officials and to see that protective gear were available for them.
The statement further said, the President together with Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, Ministers Dinesh Gunawardane, Johnston Fernando, Nimal Siripala De Silva and Secretary to Prime Minister Dr. P. B. Jayasundara briefed the UNP delegation on the measures the government had taken to curb the spread of COVID-19.
UNP Assistant Leader Ravi Karunanayake, former MPs Ruwan Wijewardene, Arjuna Ratnatunga, Palitha Range Bandara and Lakshman Wijemanne were members of the UNP delegation.
