Uva–Wellassa Rebellion commemorated

Sri Lanka’s Great Rebellion of 1817–1818 also known as the 1818 Uva–Wellassa Rebellion led by Maha Adikaram Monarawila Keppetipola was commemorated at the foot of the Keppetipola Memorial at Maha Maluwa in Kandy.

The Diyawadana Nilame Pradeep Nilanga Dela organized the event. Addressing the event, the Diyawadana Nilame highlighted the historical significance of the event and paid tribute to Keppetipola Maha Adikaram and all those who fought at the Rebellion of 1818.  

Invitees paid a floral tribute at the foot of the Keppetipola Memorial at Maha Maluwa. He also presented a book of the events to all those present.  

The Anunayake of Malwatta Venerable Rajakeeya Panditha Niyangoda Thera conducted the religious ceremonies. The Anunayake of Asgiri Venerable Panditha Anamaduwa Dharmaratne Thera conducted the Anusasanawa. Among those present were the Basnayake Nilames of Maha Vishnu Devale Mahendra Ratwatte and the Basnayake Nilame of Natha Devale K. Bandara.
