Farmers and businessmen expressed concern over the large stock of vegetables accumulating in the Dambulla Economic Centre for want of a remunerative market. They pointed out that lorry loads of vegetables from several areas had arrived but without a market.
Farmers said they spend sleepless nights with their stocks of vegetables in the hope of a remunerative market but to no avail. They pointed out that the price of vegetables had dropped sharply causing them heavy losses.
They requested the government to work out a mechanism to distribute stocks of vegetables for the benefit of the consumers facing hardship at this crucial hour. The traders said the large gathering of traders, farmers and customers frequenting the Dambula Economic Centre, which was open round the clock would turn it into an unsafe location exposed to the danger of the Coronavirus.
