Victory day celebrations this year on a low-key: Army Commander

The victory day on May 18 will be celebrated on a low-key by the security forces and adequate security would be provided for Vesak, Army Commander Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake said.   


The Army Commander said this in response to the Swiss Ambassador during a meeting held under the chairmanship of President Maithripala Sirisena on Tuesday.

  
The President briefed the diplomatic community about the progress of the operations carried out by the security forces to curb Islamic terrorist activities and the steps taken by the government to bring back normalcy in the country speedily.   


The President’s Media Division said the Swiss Ambassador wanted to know if there would be sufficient security for Vesak celebrations and Victory Day celebrations which fall on May 18.
