Land issue in North still a problem for civilians: Davies

British Deputy High Commissioner, Laura Davies, on Wednesday (15) said that land issues in the Northern Province continued to prevent some communities from rebuilding their lives.
"My first visit to Jaffna was an opportunity to see how infrastructure developments - including the Yaal Devi train - have the potential to bring real economic benefits to the peninsula. But I also heard and saw how land issues continue to prevent some communities from rebuilding their lives, including at the Sabapathipillai Welfare Camp, which Prime Minister David Cameron visited last November," Ms. Davies said. She expressed these views when she met with Northern Province Chief Minister C.V. Wigneswaran, District Secretary Suntharam Arumainayagam and Bishop Thomas Saundaranayagam in Jaffna yesterday. She also visited the Sabapathipillai Welfare Centre, the British Council in Jaffna and the Jaffna Public Library.
