Man dies after tree falls on his home

Adverse weather conditions claimed the life of one person in Yatiyantota last evening, the Disaster Management Center (DMC) said yesterday.
The victim, a 42-year-old father of two, had died when a tree, which was uprooted by strong winds, fell on his house.  The DMC confirmed that despite the adverse weather that brought howling winds and heavy showers to many areas including Yatiyantota, power lines were not affected and the supply of electricity had continued throughout.
Meanwhile the Department of Meteorology had predicted that heavy showers could bring as much as 100mm of rainfall to many parts of the island in the coming days.  According to the department several areas had experienced heavy rains last evening with the highest rainfall of 88 mm being recorded in Wellawaya while Katugastota had also experienced a rainfall of 41mm, Badulla 22mm, Kurunegala 42mm and Vavuniya 22mm.
