pm says Port City project will attract $15Bn investments

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, yesterday said that the Colombo Port City project will attract investments worth 15 billion US dollars once completed, making it the main financial and economic hub for Sri Lanka.   


Visiting the Colombo Port City construction site on an inspection tour, on its 6th year anniversary since being launched in 2014, Prime Minister Rajapaksa said the Colombo Port City will be a landmark project in Sri Lanka and the government was happy to see construction of the project ongoing.   


“Exactly six years ago, China’s President Xi Jinping and myself inaugurated this Colombo Port City Project and I am very happy to witness the present progress of the project despite work being halted for two years by the previous government,” Rajapaksa said.   


“The Colombo Port City project will be the main income generator for the future in Sri Lanka,” he added. He further said the Port City would be enjoyed by the future generations and added through this project, Sri Lanka’s land area had been expanded.   


“I should specially thank the Chinese Government for this massive investment and my sincere appreciation to the Chinese President and his government for the extended support,” Rajapaksa said.
