C.W Mackie PLC extends its support to the Colombo National Hospital

Mr. Mangala Perera, Executive Director of C. W. Mackie PLC and Dr. Anil Jasinghe, Deputy Director General of the National Hospital of Sri Lanka, unveil the new plaque marking the official handing over of newly renovated surgical ward No. 32 of the Colombo National Hospital.

Underlining this reality of human life, which treats every human being equally,C.W.Mackie PLC recently completed another outstanding project with the health authorities of Sri Lanka, there bymarking yet another significant milestone in the Company’s CSR history. It was the handing over of the renovated and completed Surgical Ward No. 32 of the National Hospital of Sri Lanka.

C.W. Mackie PLC, one of the diversified business conglomerates in Sri Lanka undertook the renovation and maintenance of Surgical Ward No. 32 of the National Hospital and successfully completed the ward with modern amenities, which was officially handed over to hospital authorities by C.W Mackie management on 28th June 2016 at a simple ceremony organized by Dr. Ramya Premaratne, Coordinating Secretary and the staff of the Coordinating Secretariat of Facelift Project of the National Hospital.  

The project was launched in January 2016 with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the two institutions by Mr. Mangala Perera, Executive   Director   of C. W. Mackie PLC and Dr. Anil Jasinghe, Deputy Director General of the National Hospital in Colombo,giving assurance of the successful completion of the CSR Project.  The company has agreed to continue this ward’s renovations for next five years.

The Company’sinvolvement with the health sector to improve the facilities of hospitals in Sri Lanka commenced a few decades back in the1990s, when the company started extending its assistance towards the maintenance of a surgical ward at the Colombo National Hospital. Without confining their CSR activities to the capital, C.W Mackie PLC expanded their services to the Horana Base Hospital, where the company is responsible for the maintenance of yet another general ward. They recently extended their project with the newly added drug room, which can be considered as fulfilling a most needed requirement of the hospital at the right stage.  

Commenting on the CSR initiative of C.W Mackie PLC, Dr. Anil Jasinghe,Deputy DirectorGeneral of National Hospital, said,“This is another remarkable and important day in our hospital’s history. We appreciate very much and take this opportunity to express our sincere gratitude towards C.W. Mackie PLC’s management and stafffor their genuine consideration towards our humble request to renovate this surgical ward and working towards it with their maximum support and finally handing over a completely renovated Ward No. 32 to our hospital. This CSR project sets an example to other corporate sector companies as well, and I request them to come forward to do this sort of sound activities for the nation”. He further added “Ward No. 32 is a surgical ward with 75 beds which is also used as a facilitated teaching ward for medical students and trainee nurses”.

Further Mr. Perera talked about their ongoing other CSR project with the health sector of Sri Lanka. “Our Group of companies has three factories situated in Horana, where C.W. Mackie has been maintaining a general ward at the Horana Base hospital for last 7 years, facilitating the welfare of the local community in the area.
