The Ceylon Institute of Builders (CIOB) has now begun accepting applications for the forthcoming Green Construction Awards in 2016.
This biannual event organised by the CIOB is scheduled to be held on a grand scale in the first week of December 2016. The green building or sustainable building process is an environmentally friendly and resource- efficient method progressing throughout a lifestyle of a building. The system applies to reduce potential environmental impact, reduction in water and energy bills and improve the quality of a healthy and productive workplace enhancing a positive corporate image.
Expressing his views on Green Construction Awards 2016, CIOB President Dr. Rohan Karunaratne said, “We organise this annual awards ceremony to reward green constructions with accolades in line with global standards and thereby offer a boost to the industry in Sri Lanka. The CIOB is, therefore, not only the leading but also the pioneer organisation in awarding green builder accreditation in keeping with global benchmark standards.
We inspect green constructions in Sri Lanka in terms of compliance with accepted international standards and norms and grant quality certification to those within the ambit of these global specifications. In addition, the CIOB also conducts higher training courses on green building management for professionals of leading construction companies with the objective of enhancing green buildings in Sri Lanka to achieve international benchmark standards.”

The CIOB was established in 1961 by a most illustrious group of engineers and builders of Sri Lanka. It was a very active organisation which contributed cohesive systems to the construction industry. The CIOB has been revived with the same objectives and adding a few more to address the problems faced by the building industry today.
