American multinational technology corporation, Microsoft Corp, recently launched the Imagine Cup competition 2022 for student developers across the world.
Considered the ‘Olympics of Technology’, the Imagine Cup is one of the top competitions and awards related to technology and software design in the world. It brings together student developers worldwide to help resolve some of the world’s toughest challenges.
Imagine Cup competitors are expected to create projects that address the Imagine Cup theme: “Imagine a world where technology helps solve the toughest problems”.
The competition for 2022 is the 20th edition of Imagine cup where competitors will bring a project to life in one of the four categories - Earth, Education, Health, and Lifestyle.
The journey will be supported by Microsoft where assistance will be extended by offering “more opportunities than ever before” to meet fellow change makers and build resume-worthy skills.
Throughout the competition, competitors will have the opportunity to innovate through hands-on experience, grow their pitch skills, and take the project from an idea to a marketable solution.
In the 19th edition of Imagine Cup competition, Kenya’s Team REWEBA won for its IoT-based infant-monitoring solution. The winners walked away with US$ 75,000, a mentoring session with Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, and a US$ 50,000 Microsoft Azure Grant.
Thousands of students from 163 countries participated in the 2021 competition spanning four social-good categories – Earth, Education, Healthcare, and Lifestyle. Only four finalist teams, representing Kenya, New Zealand, the United States, and Thailand were selected to present at the championship.
Since its kick-off in 2003, Microsoft’s Imagine Cup competition has had over two million students from across the world participate at the global challenge.
