Mountain Hawk Express (Pvt) Ltd (MHE), Licensee of Federal Express Corporation in Sri Lanka, embarked on a new “green journey” by becoming the first organisation in the express transportation services industry in the country to obtain the recognised CarbonConscious® certification.

“Sustainability is an integral part of the overall business philosophy at MHE, as we believe in engaging in green initiatives to fulfill our part of the obligation to cultivate an ecosystem that facilitates future generations to come. Receiving the CarbonConscious® certification is a significant achievement for MHE on our green journey towards a more sustainable organisation" explained Mr. Sanjeeva Abeygoonewardena, CEO of MHE.

Certified CarbonConscious® is part of a series of environmental sustainability certifications proprietary to The Sustainable Future Group (SFG). It follows international standards and protocols to measure, manage and mitigate/enhance key environmental sustainability areas such as carbon, water, waste and biodiversity.

Ms. Chamila Bandara, COO of MHE, stated that “MHE was the first air express company in Sri Lanka to launch an all-electric delivery vehicle. Thanks to the CarbonConscious® certification, we offer our customers another avenue to work with us as we move towards CarbonNeutral® deliveries in the near future”.

MHE has appointed an internal sustainability team to implement a comprehensive Carbon Management Plan to mitigate the environmental impact of their operations, and has committed to monitor and reassess their carbon footprint for an additional two years with the assistance of The Carbon Consulting Company (CCC).

"The FedEx Corporation is no stranger to sustainability, with strong programmes in place to manage their global environmental footprint. It is most encouraging to see their local licensee, a leading express transportation company in the country, taking up the challenging path towards environmental sustainability practices. The team at CCC is privileged to partner with such a champion for sustainability, and we are committed towards helping them reach their environmental goals", says Sanith de S. Wijeyeratne, CEO of CCC.

As the official Licensee of the world’s largest express transportation company FedEx Express, MHE is a fully owned subsidiary of Hayleys Advantis, the transport & logistics arm of Hayleys Group. An ISO 2008 certified company with 28 years of service, they operate a network of more than 50 branch offices and authorised shipping centres.
