Professional Bankers Association holds Annual Memorial Oration & Awards

Recognising the fine accomplishment of 50 young women and men who excelled in banking and finance examination, ‘Annual Memorial Oration and Memorial Trust Awards Ceremony’ was held recently at the Bank of Ceylon auditorium.
It was organised by the Association of Professional Bankers in Sri Lanka with K. Sivagananathan Memorial Trust, coinciding the occasion of the 14-year remembrance of the late K. Sivagananathan, who was an innovative banker.


The event was graced by State Enterprise Development Deputy Minister Eran Wickramaratne and Bank of Ceylon CEO D.M. Gunasekara.


The other dignitaries included, K. Sivagananathan Memorial Trust Chairman Nathan Sivagananathan, Association of Professional Bankers of Sri Lanka President Shashi Kandambi and Association of Professional Bankers of Sri Lanka Secretary General Aruna Fernando.
“For past 14 years we have been able to educate over 1,000 students, as well as professionals in banking and finance exams,” Nathan Sivagananathan said.


“Majority are from Western Province, about 20 percent are from North East, and 20 percent are from Central and South,” he said as it was a great achievement for them in educating people in rural areas as well.


K. Sivagananathan Memorial Trust was formed in 2002, established in commemoration of the late K. Sivagananathan, to uplift the standards of education in the field of banking and finance.
The trust has joined hands with the Association of Professional Bankers of Sri Lanka (APB) to give an additional boost to this event awarding scholarships to candidates who obtained the highest marks in the diploma in banking and finance examination conducted by the Institute of Bankers of Sri Lanka.
The trust has continued to identify and recognise talent within the field with the motive to ensure the highest standards of professionalism and interest in the banking industry.
