St. Theresa Industries Kenya Ltd launched Chance Helical piling systems of Hubbell Power Systems Inc, USA, at Emara Hotel Ole Sereni Nairobi, recently.

The use of Helical Piles and Guy Anchor structures is a first in Kenya and the East African region.

In Sri Lanka Chance Helical piling systems are being used for Ceylon Electricity Board electrification projects under EPC and in other construction projects in restricted terrains, where soil conditions, access and concrete foundation operations are a challenge.

Welcoming the guests for this workshop event in Nairobi, St. Theresa Industries Kenya Ltd Group CEO Madusanka Fernando stated that Chance Helical Piles and Guy Anchor systems are a cost-effective alternative to current practices of piling systems used over the world.

They come custom built, factory pre-assembled or site assembled and conserve labour, material, equipment and time with minimum damage to the environment. According to him, the foundations and anchors are made of reusable material using environmentally-conscious processes that make the most efficient use of raw material and natural resources.

He added that it’s a green alternative to concrete and has a reduced carbon footprint and is a sustainable alternative as it can be reused. According to him it reduces overall 20 to 30 percent of any piling costs.  At the launch, chief guest Registered Consulting Engineer and Kenya Power Lighting Company Standards Manager Dr. Peter Kimemia stated that Kenya welcomes green and sustainable solutions that are cost effective. Dr. Kimemia, requesting industry contractors to embrace new technology, informed that the piling and anchoring system can be considered not only for electrification systems but also for telcos and any type of construction of towers.

St. Theresa Industries Kenya Ltd, a subsidiary of St. Theresa Industries (Pvt.) Ltd Sri Lanka, provides power line supplies to Kenyan government distribution companies, private sector and multinational donor agency electrification projects, including projects in Uganda and Rwanda. With the introduction of Chance Helical piling and anchoring systems, St. Theresa Industries looks forward to expanding its presence further in the East African region.
