Hayleys PLC-owned Talawakelle Tea Estates PLC (TTEL) continued its winning streak at the prestigious Presidential Environmental Awards, after the plantation company won four awards for its continued contribution towards promoting green practices and environmental sustainability.
At the 2017 awards ceremony, the tea factory at Holyrood Estate clinched a Silver award while Deniyaya Estate won a Bronze award. Mattakelle Estate and Bearwell Estate were honoured with Merit awards for showcasing top-level environmental sustainability practices in the
tea industry.
TTEL won these awards in recognition of its exceptional contribution towards driving organisational performance through sound environmental and green management practices and its HRM strategy extended not only for 7500 direct workforce but also for the entire plantation community of 50000.
Organised by the Central Environmental Authority (CEA), the Presidential Environmental Awards is organised to appreciate the eagerness of industries, service sector organisations and individuals towards environmental conservation and protection, while sustaining their active involvement in the long run for a clean and green Sri Lanka. The awards ceremony was held at the BMICH under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena.
“As a leader in the local tea industry, Talawakelle Tea Estates holds a greater responsibility in fostering green practices and work towards the common goal of making a clean and green Sri Lanka for the generations to come, through our innovative manufacturing processes and strategic environmental sustainability practices,” said Hayleys Plantations Sector Managing Director Roshan Rajadurai.
“Continuing to steal the show for the fourth consecutive year at this prestigious awards ceremony is a great testament to all the industry-recognized green practices we follow at our tea estates. The four awards we received at Presidential Environmental Awards 2017 also recognize the effectiveness, consistency in implementation and the continual improvement of the systems implemented on our estates. I wish to thank our management and valued team of employees for their unwavering commitment to setting new environmental sustainability benchmarks for the Sri Lankan tea industry,” Rajadurai further stated.
