Banking customers around the globe seem to be making the transition from traditional banking methods to E-banking. The costs and the difficulties associated with traditional banking remain a significant source of frustration. Technology has removed many of the former barriers to branchless banking with services such as remote deposit capture, reloads networks, and enhanced ATM deposit capabilities. Furthermore, mobile devices and smartphones have taken online-banking convenience to new levels.

In a bid to promote e-banking amongst its customer base, Hatton National Bank recently unveiled ‘HNB New World Rewards’ campaign. The first ever online banking rewards system in Sri Lanka, ‘HNB New World Rewards’ offers customers reward points per every digital transaction conducted. Whilst customers with an accumulation of a large number ofreward points stand a chance to win a Nissan Leaf at the Grand Finale of the HNB New World Rewards campaign, each monthly drawconclude in gifting a iPhone 6S to a lucky customer. Each time a customer uses the HNB e-banking portal they increase their chances of entering the final and the monthly draws.

To assist customers to set up their e-banking accounts or resolve existing issues with their account,HNB introduced the ‘Surfer’, a helpful character on a hover board who traversed the length and breadth of the event premises at the Family Fair held from 8th - 11th December at the BMICH, assisting HNB customers and teaching them the modus operandi of e-banking.
