‘Change today, for tomorrow’ creates awareness on World Diabetes Day

Diabetasol held an awareness program on November 14, marking World Diabetes Day, at the Racecourse Promenade, Colombo 7. The program focussed on Diabetes, the non-communicable disease with the highest rate of spread in Sri Lanka.

Held under the theme ‘Change today, for tomorrow’, the full day program presented diabetic patients and people with an interest in the disease the opportunity to learn ways and means of living with the disease as well as prevention of the disease before it develops.

“Diabetes can be life threatening if not detected and managed properly,” said Chief Guest prominent Endocrinologist, Dr. Henry Rajaratnam.

Adding his views at the event, senior dietician and President of the Sri Lanka Dieticians Association, Mr. Hettigedera said: “Having a balanced nutrition regime can help prevent diabetes and many other diseases.”

The event, organised by Diabetasol - the balanced nutrition with a low Glycemic index, included a host of crowd participation mini-events and activities for healthy living, as well as fun workout sessions and Zumba, free diabetes screening, a dietary advice panel manned by renowned nutritionists, as well as senior doctors and medical professionals, and one-on-one wellness consultations, BCA analysis and health checks.

Participating at the event were the Sri Lanka Dieticians Association, Equal, VLCC, the e-Doctor service, Absolute Ayurveda and Barrows, Calorie Counter, Nutri Bullet, Desert Bullet, HNB Assurance, Hayleys VISION CARE and Baurs Cinnamon Drink.

Speaking at the event, country manager of Kalbe International Sri Lanka, Mr. Sudarshana Jayatillaka said: “Diabetes cannot be cured; it can only be prevented and managed. It is vital that diabetes sufferers, their families and the public in general come together to battle the spread of this disease. Let’s stand together to fight diabetes.”
