A short-lived expectation!

There is a politico representing a constituency in Uva who once stood tall in the Green party. He later threw in his lot with the Betel leaf and held high office in that alliance. Quite recently he returned to the Green fold and began working for the party with much vigour. However, he was not lucky enough to get a place in the top team.

Recently speculation was rife in political circles that the Greens and the Blues were about to patch up differences to form another national unity government and a list of nominees for the top team rank had already been sent to the palace.

The turncoat from Uva had got highly excited when he heard that his name too was included in the list sent to the palace.

A few days later, Uva politico showed up at the palace and was warmly welcomed by Number One.

Inquired about the purpose of his visit, the Uve told Number One he was just making a courtesy call. However, Number One intuitively knew why the man wanted to call on him.

He asked the Uva one:

“Did you see some newspapers speculating that some new Cabinet appointments were to be made?”

A highly excited Uva politico said:

“Yes, Sir, I too read some stories hinting that possibility!”

“But take it from me,” Number One told the Uwe One. “I am not going to swear any new ones into the Cabinet!”

The Uva politico left the palace sadder, but wiser, they say.
