Future Mahaweli Minister, a thorn in their side?

There is a Pohottuwa Diyawanna member who is quite active in politics in a constituency in the Pulatisipura area.

He called on the former strongman the other day and asked that he be given the Mahaweli portfolio at the top team level in the future Pohottuwa government.

The former strongman only guffawed at this request and made no commitment, they say.

Back in his home turf, this Diyawanna politico these days would dramatically appear on the campaign rally stage following an organizer’s announcement:

“Now welcome with a round of applause, the next speaker, the Minister of Mahaweli and Environment of the future government!”

The former strongman, a seasoned politico makes no objection to his followers describing themselves as future Ministers and treat such declarations with a wry smile, they say.

Meanwhile, Number One had received numerous complaints saying that this ‘future Mahaweli Minister’ had begun attacking him at the Pohottuwa campaign rallies in Pulatisipura district disregarding the agreement reached by the Pohottuwa and Blue party leaders to work together.

And Number One had reportedly given a red signal to the Pohottuwa leadership that behaviour of this Diyawanna politico could cause a serious setback to their political journey together.
