Getting into good graces!

A pinkama to transfer merit to the dead victims of the recent suicide bomb attacks was held at a prominent Buddhist temple in the city the other day.

A number of government and opposition Diyawanna politicos participated in this religious ceremony. The chief guest on the occasion was a very high political authority in the country.

The ceremony over, the high political authority was chatting with a group of Diyawanna politicos present on the occasion. Meanwhile, a Colombo politico whose name is closely connected to the gentlemen’s game, taking advantage of the occasion to warm his way into the graces of the high political authority addressed the latter: “Sir, I’ll be frank with you!  It’s true that your image had earlier suffered a little. But the way you acted following the tragedy has won you much praise from all sections and your image has got an unprecedented boost!” He said making a symbolic gesture with a raised hand.

The angry remarks that some politicos made later in response to this flattering comment were so nasty, they are unprintable!
