He got a present in gold!

A story doing rounds in the khaki department says an OIC of a station at the periphery who got a transfer to Colombo on promotion to a higher grade was so lucky as to receive several gold sovereigns as a present at the ‘send-off’ given to him by his subordinates. 

Some acolytes of the uniformed high-up had taken the initiative to make this unusual present by making a hat-collection from all the subordinates, they say.
