His first love is business!

There is a Diyawanna member who was elected from a district in the South having garnered over one lakh of preference votes. This member who goes about nattily dressed in the Western attire is said to be better known as a businessman than as a politico.

The member who was quite liberal with his money at the last general polls succeeded in pushing several  well-known characters down in the preference list in winning a seat. 

This businessman cum politico has also set a record by not addressing the council sessions on a single day for the last 10 months.

He never visits his constituency in the South. Constituents calling at his private residence and the political office would invariably find both places closed, they say.  

At the outset, there had been security guards at the residence and the political office. And some constituents calling over to meet the Diyawanna member had got involved in altercations with the security guards on being told that the member was not available. 

When the security guards had complained that some people would become rude and abusive on being told that the member was not available, he had solved the problem by withdrawing them after putting the two places under lock and key. 

Now the politico is said to be going about attending to his business interests in the city with an armed escort and if anyone asks him whether he was no longer interested in his constituents, he would quip: “ I didn’t receive votes for free. I have already made the due payment…That transaction is over!”

This politico is said to be a government member. People in the district who voted for the ruling party blame the party high-ups for not looking into the conduct of this MP and vow to give them all a fitting reply come the next the general polls.
