There is a voluble Diyawanna politico who has made it to the council from a distant district. He, of course, had to come last time through the list for he lost his seat at the polls.

A long-standing Blue, he threw in his lot with the Green party recently. Although he changed his political stance for the short-term gain, it has now occurred to him it would be a difficult task for him to win a seat again from this district by contesting on the Green ticket. For Maddu now firmly rooted in the area could easily crowd him out when contesting on the same list.

A shrewd one he is, the other day he met Maddu and suggested that he seek a place on the party’s national list come to the next general polls. “Budu Appochchi!” exclaimed a highly surprised Maddu. “That would be a tall order!”

The voluble man covering his severe disappointment with a wan smile said in response: “What to do then!  I may have to try either Galle or Balapitiya next time!”
