A prominent black-coated Diyawanna member, once an active Leftist, had recently visited the diplomatic missions of two leading European countries.

This politico-who played a lead role in bringing about the Yahapalanaya and its Constitutional Reforms-had reportedly visited the two diplomatic missions for the purpose of obtaining the citizenship of these countries for him and the members of his family.

He is said to have told the diplomats of both missions that he has earned the enmity of a powerful political family in the country for introducing certain Constitutional Provisions and to substantiate his claim, he had handed to them a voice recording of critical comments made about him by some opposition politicos.

He had also told the diplomats of the two missions that there was a strong possibility of the ‘Powerful political family’ gaining ruling power as an outcome of the upcoming big poll and hence his request for the citizenship of their countries.

After receiving the politico’s application for citizenship, the two diplomatic missions have begun making discreet inquiries to check the veracity of his claim, they say.
