Monetary donations from a State-run Fund were made for development purposes to places of religious worship, temples. kovils, mosques and churches during the previous regime.
Some kovils in the city and its outskirts had been selected as beneficiaries of these monetary donations. A certain bigwig of that regime had taken a hand in both selecting the kovils and distributing to them the financial assistance.
While the donations were being made, complaints made to that regime said that some kovils had been given lesser amounts than the stipulated amount. In fact, the management of some kovils had complained that the donations that they had received from the authorities amounted to only 10 or 15 percent of what had been set apart for them. Given these complaints, a responsible legal authority had proposed to a government high-up that an investigation be made into this matter.
The government high-up who okayed an investigation into the apparent fraud had remarked: “Those who loot the monies meant for temples and kovils may escape legal action, but not God’s punishment!”
