It is often said that the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach.Perhaps acting on this truism, Punchi Dasa’s big rival from the city, the swarthy one had hosted the party’s Diyawanna politicos to a grand dinner. The main purpose of this dinner was to win support for his anti-Punchi Dasa campaign within the party.

Although about 45 members had been invited, only nine members had turned up at the dinner, they say.

Broaching the subject of the party’s candidacy for the upcoming big poll, the swarthy one had tried to impress on his guests that the current Diyawanna council chair was the most suitable candidate if the Green party leader decided to step down.

However, his guests, members from areas like Kurunegala, Chilaw, Rambukkana, Ratnapura, Galle, Yatiyantota and Badulla among others had asked him whether he did not agree that Punchi Dasa could give a good fight.

The swarthy one’s reply had been a firm ‘no’.

He had also declared that if the party took a decision contrary to wish, his future political haven would no longer be the Green party. He had also mentioned his choice as the alternative – a fairly old political party, they say.
