A certain political party bigwig in the thick of the fray had wanted to call on a leading religious dignitary in Wayamba to obtain his blessings and of course, showcase the proposed meeting with the dignitary for political mileage.
The political stalwart was to visit the City of Pearls on a certain day according to his campaign schedule and he asked the party’s provincial chief to get an appointment for a meeting with the religious dignitary on that day afternoon.
The dignitary sent word to the political stalwart saying he could grant an audience in the morning of that day as he was going to be busy that afternoon.
The Party heavyweight who was keen on meeting the dignitary immediately made necessary adjustments in his itinerary and found time to call on the religious dignitary. However, come that morning the dignitary informed his prospective visitor that an unforeseen matter was in the way of meeting him that morning. But he could see him about noon the same day.
The political bigwig again hurriedly changed his travel schedule and inquired to know the exact time he should call over. Pat came the reply from the religious dignitary: “Sorry. It has become necessary for me to leave for Colombo immediately.”
The political high up finally resigned himself to the reality that the religious dignitary was purposely avoiding a meeting with him. He told his intermediary: “As we too are busy, let us consider meeting him later!”
